the scenery changes from one moment to the next, and eventually, we reach Blonduos where I leave my big bus and hop into the bus for Skagastrond. My bus driver, Heidar, drives me into town, and as I get closer I get more and more excited!!! This place is awesome in the old sense of the word.

i can’t believe how beautiful it is

stop off

We stop off at small settlements along the way to drop off passengers and parcels. Some seem to be just a petrol station with supermarket attached.

a surreal start

A picture through the window of a bus can’t capture the beauty of this place. I am not long out of the capital Reykjavik and the country opens up. Stark fields of boulders, shimmering lakes and fjords, green pastures, and to top it off, snow on the mountains. So surreal for a grrl form the land downunder.

the journey begins

The journey from Reykavik began well. The transport minister for Iceland Mr Kristian Moller arrived to announce a new initiative of half price fares, and I was more than happy to be one of the first to buy my ticket to Sgakastrond.
